First series of pictures from night training runs. 13km tonight. In, around and along Beach Road. Deserted streets, sandy scrub alleys, hum of street lights, barbers, folks cruising in massive pickup trucks and the Dubai runners lifeline - the chilled public water taps.
Couple of roughly edited shots of 2nd day out with the GoPro surf camera laid across a track by Dutch Schultz (Rus' old band). Check out the colours of sky, clouds, reflections on the sea, water trickling down the deck of the board. In HD this is beautiful.
WTF! 7days reports Australian surfer nibbled by shark just off Umm Suqeim beach. ie. My local break. Suspect this was one of the (Great White) rays that occasionally rise and give you a nudge, but then again it could have been a tiger or bull ;-) Swell's still pushing in, treats for those who venture in tomorrow morning!
It's rare that I'm in Abu Dhabi during the week, or for that matter during the day. Twice in 5 years. Traffic, people, movement. Aiming to ride it on the single-speed and shoot some video before the heat kicks in.
This one is actually just off Beach Road on the side street that leads to the Burj end of the Umm Sequim public beach. Is a regular 'hydration stop' at the end of humid summer training runs - when water just isn't enough. The Dubai equivalent of Bruxelles' night shops.
Approximately 15 seconds earlier (or the time it takes to get your Blackberry out of your pocket and select camera mode - whilst cycling) this guy was popping a wheelie at about 80kmph whilst standing one footed on the seat of his bike. Oddly enough, earlier in the evening a kid attempted to 'race' us as we cycled and chatted, only to lose control and crash on the pavement.
